I read with the interest on the blogs which mention about the strategy of depleting the non-retirement account. This is followed by the retirement account. I am of view that such strategy is a good one. I have made some calculation on my own. I reckon that my non-retirement accounts will allow me to last 18 years till 2037 with the assumption of conservative rate of return. The investment portfolio will last me till the lifetime with the assumption of aggressive investment. This is with the assumption of my annual expense of $50,000. I know that I can reduce such expense readily to accommodate the generated dividend from the investment portfolio. I am not taking into consideration of the retirement account in the form of CPF monies as known in the place which I am currently residing in.

The above circumstance and calculation gives me the courage of quitting the full-time employment a few months back. I could have worked for a few years more. However, I do not know whether I will be able to survive with the overwhelming stress derived from the full-time employment. It makes more sense for me to quit the rat race when I have the capacity and ability to do so.
