I read with interest on a blogger who mentioned on whether it matters when one retires. This creates a deep thought in my mind. There are instances in which an individual who retired at the age of 35 after achieving FI. He left the world a few years later. This goes to show how fragile life can be. At least, this individual managed to enjoy a few years of non-employment before leaving the world.
There are instances in which one feel that he/she needs to work one year in order to be financially secure. This is despite his/her achieving FI based on the calculation. This is so-called one year syndrome. I am not sure whether this is the right approach of delaying the retirement. In fact, there is no right and wrong answer and is up to one to decipher whether such approach is right for him or her.
There are also instances in which one may wonder what to do after he/she retires. One does not have the side hustles or into long walk. What happen if I do not have such blogging interest? How am I going to spend the free time? Such circumstance is of no concern. I am fine with doing nothing in my free time.
I also note that the blogger who added that he was a serial job-hopper. He commented that he sometimes scratch his head when he read a blogger definitely not doing well in his day job. He added that it may not be a good idea to seek FIRE to escape the full-time employment. The blogger can just change job/career/industry instead.
The above circumstances show that there is no right or wrong approach. It is up to one to decide whether he/she is comfortable with the approach and make the decision accordingly. The most important thing is to be happy with the made decision.
